PWD: Public Works Department

PWD is the acronym for Public Works Department. It is a Govt. of India department which deals with development as well as maintenanceof the public infrastructure like roads, government bridges, building, irrigation systems and much more. This is the central authority that is responsible for all types of public sector work in India. To ensure drinking water supply for the city and repair the damaged pipes pipesis equally the responsibility of PWD. In addition, if there's any damage to any government hospitals, schools roads, etc repair work is carried out by PWD.

PWD is found across all states of India. It is divided into sub-divisions, divisions and sections. In every state, it has similar work and responsibilities as designing and building all public projects undertaken by Government creating and developing roads, security as well as facilities for highways and roads, maintenanceand restructuring of governmentbuildings as well as other buildings. This type of work was formerly conducted by the military in India. Then, in the middle of the 19th century, the responsibility for public works was assigned to a distinct part of the Indian Civil Service.

PWD's Work of PWD can be divided into four categories:
